Installation Instructions

  1. Download the most current version of NEMS from the NEMS Linux web site.
  2. Unzip and “Burn” the image to your Micro SD card.
  3. Connect your NEMS Linux server to an Internet-connected Ethernet cable and power it on. If your device does not have Ethernet (eg., Raspberry Pi Zero) you'll need to boot, press CTRL-ALT-F1 and type: raspi-config to go through the standard WiFi setup for the device and then reboot it before you can use NEMS.
  4. Login to NEMS Linux console using ssh. The default username and password are both nemsadmin. While NEMS Linux does come with Cockpit pre-installed, it is recommended to use that only after the device has been initialized (ie., do not use Cockpit to initialize the device).
  5. Type: sudo nems-init
  6. After rebooting, reconnect and restore your backup.nems NEMS-Migrator file if you have one.
  7. Open https://nems.local/ in your web browser from any computer connected to the same network as your NEMS server and open NEMS SST, where you can add settings such as your SMTP configuration. If nems.local doesn't work, you may access it via IP address instead.
  8. Start adding host and service configuration via NEMS NConf.

Once you're all up and running, you can follow the Upgrade Instructions to gain access to all the latest features of NEMS Linux.
